Juniper

immersive, spatial piece for 3 hn, 3 perc, and strings

Description:
Juniper was written to be performed with an immersive staging, where the audience is surrounded by the performers. The strings and percussion may be arranged in a fairly standard orchestral configuration but with enough spacing to create a slight semicircle around the front of the audience. The crotales and horns should be placed at a distance from the rest of the performers, completing the semicircle opposite the strings and percussion.

Juniper is a celebration of the communal experience of music making through immersive staging and resonant orchestration. The placement of the audience among the performers seeks to not only create a spatial listening experience but also to elevate the audience, emphasizing their role as creative interpreters along with the performers.
