Souvenir is an ongoing series of pieces reflecting on death and memory. Following the premiere of each work, the score, parts, and any pre-existing reference materials are to be deleted or recycled by composer and performers. There will be no recordings made of the work at the premiere or any point in the future. The piece will thus live on solely in the memories of the original audience and performers. Any additional performance of the work must be done from memory. As the memory of the work fades from the performers’ minds, they may recreate it as they wish, filling in the gaps with their best recollections. Consequently, as time passes, the work becomes more and more subject to the will and interpretation of the performers.
